I never took to Wood Engraving in school, far more interested in the detail I was lent in Etching. Soon after school however Wood Engraving became a passion of mine with the Bodhisattva-like influence and encouragement of two brilliantly lit up Human beings; Jim Horton and the Wood Engraving Network he's responsible for, and Gerard Brender à Brandis who's traditional purism is the likes this digital age has never seen and a must visit if visiting Stratford, Ont. It's also become a kind of tradition for me to give away my Wood Engravings as graduation gifts to my students and special folks I meet along the path, and whereas I just can't reprint some of them, many of them can still be purchased. All of my Wood Engravings have been cut and printed from Canadian maple endgrain and sometimes on my hand-laid paper, with my own hand pumiced inks.
